Well thank God she doesn't take movie roles to please you! Cause I (and I assume others) liked it very much.

It appears that Julianne Moore takes her roles to please ME, whether she's playing a '50s housewife, an FBI agent tracking a cannibal, or a drugged-out porn star. I can't imagine anyone else being more convincing in the "Prize Winner" role.
Just because she's revisited a certain era a few times in her roles doesn't make her less of an actress. She is one of the biggest film talents we have today, and it's unfortunate she's not a bigger name in Hollywood.
I think you should watch the movie again. It was wonderful and she played her role to perfection.

You should see "Boogie Nights". She plays a porno star and drug addict in the 1970s. She loses custody and visitation of her young daughter due to her over the top life. She's terrific in the part, btw.
