Kelly

I have not read the book, but I saw this movei this weekend and I loved it. I am curious, does the book go into more detail on the dad, Kelly? He is obviously an alcoholic, but he seems to have some mental issues as well. the talking to himself in the kitchen thing, the violent outbursts, the sporadic crying. Just curious if someone could share some insight on what was going on with him.
Thanks,
Vivian

Hi there Vivian,

yep, you definitely need to read the book to help understand him better, at times you even feel sorry for him, not that anything really excuses him for how he treated his family tho. Like most movies, they only touch on the highlights and can't go into much depth. You will find that the book will have you experience every human emotion possible, even lots of laughter. You can usually get it via your public library if you don't want to buy it, if they don't have it, most will get it from another library. Personally, I bought two books (only time in my life have ever done that) one for keeping for myself, and a paperback to lend out to folks. If you are on E-Bay, it often shows up there also.

Hey Cathy,
It sounds like this is a must read. I will order it today. You are right, there were times in the movie when you almost felt for Kelly, but then you remember that he was abusive and she had to over compensate.
Thanks, and I will be reading this soon.
