ewww...

the movie was cute but the real family was a bunch of redneck hillbillies. it was also pretty creepy at the end when Juliane Moore kissed the daughter.. it was just so fake and gross.. ick

Oh dear... how can anyone get it so wrong??? 'Redneck hillbies'??? I don't think so! This was a warm, articulate and intelligent family (other than the fact that the dad was a hopeless alcoholic). All the Ryan kids are doing well today, have good jobs and are a credit to their late mother. Wish there were more like them!

jealous?

Did you watch the same ending that I did when they showed the "Real Ryan kids"? The ones in the movie were nice looking actors. The ones in real life were a bunch of morbidly obese gross people with mullets.

reply

The real Ryan kids were just like any other kids - they went through stages: spots, spectacles, puppy fat etc. Who didn't? And there was nothing about the adult Ryans in the movie, that was either gross or morbidly obese. They were middle-aged adults, and refreshingly normal... were we watching the same film?

It's been a while since I've seen the film, but you must have really been watching something different than I saw. I was really touched at the ending when the real family was shown. I saw ordinary looking, middle-aged people--certainly no one who looked like "red-neck hillbillies".

Completely besides the point that looking at people for a few moments is not really the best way to judge their character or personality.

These are real people celebrating the life and accomplishments of their mother--your comments are really unfortunate, and frankly rather juvenile.

Hear, hear! In fact, the real Ryans were a rather nice looking bunch of kids. Look here at some of their childhood photos:

It's rather sad that some people seem to feel the need to knock the Ryans, for whatever bizarre reason. I've met both Terry and LeeAnn, and can vouch for them being lovely, warm and generous-hearted people!

Thanks for posting the link! The Ryan pics look like pictures of my parents and other relatives in the fifties. (Actually, thinking about it, both my parents' families were probably in a very similar demographic--maybe you'd call it the working poor.)

I really love seeing and hearing that the real Ryans are nice people. I found this film extremely inspiring--and it's always nice to know that a story which inspired you is based in truth!

For those who've not seen it, here's the official Prize Winner website - enjoy!:

"...a bunch of morbidly obese gross people with mullets."

Wow. That statement makes me wonder how you see things every day while going through your life. I saw nothing like that while viewing the ending of this film, which moved me and gave me great respect for Evelyn and the kids she raised in spite of some serious obstacles.

Shame on you,
GB

ps: You don't happen to live in either Los Angeles or New York, do you? Just asking...

I think that your post speaks for itself, rhbspartan_08. The Ryan's are truly a talented and diverse family.
Sadly, Terry Ryan passed away last year, which makes it all the more abhorrent that a few individuals feel the need to post abusive remarks.
