Is this show goofy or what?
The music is not in context with the movie. What is with the scene of Laura with the leaves and that goofy music. I like Cameron as Charles but I am not sure about the whole show. Any other ideas?

shareYes, the music seems ill-fitted to the story. I was deeply disappointed by this movie. I sent an email to my friend, also a fan of the books (and original series, despite its loose basis on the books). I'll copy it here for most of my reaction to this movie. Warning: spoilers ahead!
So far, the first scene was never in the books. Grandma seems to dislike Pa and their plans to go to Kansas -- not even hinted at in the book. The young aunt acts like a petulant teenager. The whole "sugaring" time is a blip in the story. Ma tells the girls they can only take two things with them in
the wagon. When did that ever occur? They took everything but the beds, tables, and chairs!
Pa is much too agressive. Ma is too outspoken and is
wearing earrings, not something most women did at that time to my knowledge. Mary is an obvious brat (rather than being subtly smug as in the books). Laura is nearly blond. Jack is an Australian shepherd, a breed not even in America at the time.
They crossed the lake on the ice, as you remember, but just now in the movie the ice began to crack. This never happened! Ma's hair is all loose an unkempt, rather than being in a braid or bun as described. They don't wear
bonnets but strange knitted hats. And Laura and Mary are too old and seem the same age. There was some made up scene where Pa tried to sell
furniture in town too.
Pa falls off his horse who was bitten by a rattlesnake. Do you remember such a thing ever happening? I don't! Pa shoots the horse. Pa did NOT take Laura alon when he was chased by wolves and the wolves never attacked him! Uh oh! Now they have tresspassed, and there are rogue
soldiers to look out for! Oh, also, there is no Baby
Carrie. Mr. Edwards seems crazy, creepy, and scary.
So much
for a by-the-book adaptation.
The soundtrack is annoyingly modern and inappropriate.
I could go on, but I'll let others comment.
This is a really dumb and trivial comment...but oh well. LIW writes as if there's a huge contrast in her hair color and Mary's. In several LIW biographies, there is a photo of Laura, Mary, and Carrie taken when Mary was 16, Laura was 14, and Carrie was 11. I know it's a black and white photo, but there is very little difference that I can see in their hair color. In fact, if I had to choose who had lighter hair, I would say Laura. And Carrie's looks the lightest of all. In any photo I've seen of them, together or separate, I would describe all of them as having light brown hair. A picture of Grace as a baby shows her with distinctly blond hair. It seems to darken somewhat by the time she's an adult. Mary's definitely not a flaxen blond or anything, and she's certainly not what I'd call pretty. Laura, on the other hand, is quite attractive, especially as a young adult.
I know...details....
Laura was and had always been a dark brunette. Carrie had light brown/dark blond hair. Grace was a blond. I agree that photographs of Mary did not show her as a true golden blond but that may be the way her hair photographed.
Another point. Laura always gushed about how beautiful Mary was but in a picture of all the girls, I thought Laura was the prettiest of the bunch.
As this picture you refer to was taken when the children were older, it would not accurately reflect the hair color from a much younger age. I had a brother, two of my children and a nephew, who as toddlers had almost white hair - they were so blond. All had much darker hair as they reached their tween and teen years. Also those older photographs you call black & white, were originally sepia.
