watch it again, he says he didn't want anything to change. He was afraid of change, sort of. I kind of need to watch it again too, I was asking the same question until he answered it.
shareJack was afraid of change, and luckily, he didn't do anything with her because his folks came home very shortly after he left the room and she got dressed. In the end, him walking away from her changed everything for them, because she went off to boarding school by the end of the summer.

started to undress her and heard his mother come in with her boyfriend. THey
quickly got dressed and the opportunity never came up again. THey never lost
the attraction to each other but althogh they saw each other on school vacations he in particular was involved with a lot of other women and they went
in different circles until they became invlved again after her brother took the
job with the hospital etc. etc., etc.
I don't know if any other book was ever messed up intentionally so much, because they said they were following the book ?????
Yes, but the book strongly implies that Jack should have CARED enough to not let
this mishap stop him from having, and then marrying, Anne. Jack was an indecisive
wimp. Until the end of the book, when he redeemed himself.
