Why Trish's daughter couldn't have sex with boyfriend

It was a recurring theme that somehow her mother "forbade" her to have sex, so she was still a virgin - which embarrassed her during the clinic scene. Apparently, she needed permission to prescribe pills - but she could've just bought a pack of condoms and let's go.

I just thought that she was doing that anyways. She just wanted to go to the clinic for an additional layer of birth control in addition to using condoms.
