Originality is overrated. This movie was executed extremely well, and that is what made it good. Shakespeare recycled many/most of his stories and plots from other sources, did you know that? In the past the same stories would be told by most story tellers, and it was the way that they told the story that made it genius or terrible, even though it was the same story.
Because of the novelty of fast technological expansion in the 20th Century, industrial societies developed a sort of irrational fetish for novelty, with the idea that anything "original" is necessarily valuable. In point of fact, of course, originality is usually a sign of inferior quality compared to what has stood the test of time from the past, and the idea that originality is some kind of be all and end all of creativity is already an anachronism. To me when people say, "Oh, it's not original," they sound really ignorant and unsophisticated.
