i first saw it when i came out, I still love it. think people that don't like it are mot looking or listening. Anyone that has dealt with a serious addiction can relate to the film. Plus it was filled with witty banter and I loved robert downey juniors character.

I honestly believe that this is one of the most underrated films of the last decade. It's hilarious at points, yet strikes on many important themes - it is SO applicable today, and will become more so. Substance D does not have to be a drug...
shareI totally agree. It has some great comedic moments but is ultimately a tragedy.
I think creating a fictional drug like Substance D was perfect because it allows the viewer to connect with their own personal experiences of whatever drugs they've done in the past. They did a good job at making D feel like it could be any drug out there.
Barris and Luckman get into a stupid fight with a hammer and a rock as if they were drunk, Arctor hallucinates as if he was on shrooms/LCD/some type of hallucinate, Barris can appear very intense as if he's on cocaine/ecstasy or any other amphetamine, Arctor and Donna appear very relaxed and mellow as if they're stoned or on a downer, awesome stuff.
And no, I haven't done any drugs besides weed and alcohol but I've been around people who are high on harder drugs and I could see the similarities in this movie.
I love this film! just saw it for the first time on DVD. I have no interest in drugs, never done them etc. so that was a bit full on but really i loved it! Love sci-fi, just watched Blade Runner for the first the other day too so on a Philp K Dick roll, need to find a copy of Total Recall now!
Great film, quite funny in places and loved the end, using him. can't believe i missed it for all these years, love Keanu and Downey Jr.

This film is definitely one of my favourites and very underrated. The cast is perfect too.
shareIt was great, really good performances, quirky. I thought the animation added another layer to it. I watched it sober but felt like I was stoned for bits of it because of the surreal quality. I was surprised when it ended, I thought it was only half way through, lol.
