I own this movie on blu-ray and love getting high to it but honestly the emotional dramatic parts with Arctor make this movie drag. If this was just a comedy I think this would of turned out much better. Honestly I could care less about the Substance D aspect to it. I just want to see these guys have fun, get f'ed up and be silly. I don't need all the drama.....bleck...gets depressing.

shareWell, the book is anti prescription grade speed, which Philip K. Dick suffered the majority of his adult life addicted to. Without that addiction, there is a very good chance that his schizophrenia could have remained latent.
Of course, on the pro drugs side, he never would have created the ethereal work without that addiction. Both arguments have their place, but you really aren't presenting an argument to the man's work, you're ignoring the message of a fictionalized account of the man's life and knocking points off him for trying to create a thing of beauty and save people instead of creating a comedy pot heads can get high to. And I say that as a pot head. Don't make us look bad. Go out and write the novel or screenplay you want to see.

Drugs/mental illness in artists push them to the limit. They might be even better without them, but I think those effect mind very much and makes them what they are/were.
