Wow, Florida is so...colorful!

Was Betty really that STUPID in real life? I never imagined her being a stupid person. Maybe a little in her younger years, but DAMN

Now, I love Marry Harron (loved American Psycho, loved I Shot Andy Warhol), but this was just TERRIBLE! She acted like a pre-pubescent farmgirl the ENTIRE time and never once showed any emotion save for maybe the church crying scene.

Her life was gone through in fast forward sessions (thanks Ms. Harron and editor) and the most INANE scenes Ive ever witnessed befell my eyes. "Hi Im a cop, can I take your picture?" "Sure" ffwd ffwd ffwd... "Hi, take my picture" "OK" ffwd ffwd vague scenes with the Cuban guy. etc etc. Everything was just SO vague and skimmed over. I thought, if they had such a thing as "Cliffs Notes" versions of films, that I had accidentally rented that version instead of the whole movie.

Overall, just EXTREMELY poorly done (except for the photo shoot re-enactments) and gets a 2/10 from me. Just had to vent...

She came across to really stupid to me as well, but I think the portrayal is pretty accurate. She was dumb and naive. I heard in later life she became a hardcore fundy and denounced her past modeling photos, so there you go. But I think the movie worked. It's sort of ballsy to make a movie about a main character who is so clueless.

And I do agree that the photo shoots were well done. I really like how her trip to Miami Beach was shot in color 35mm. Not only did that mean they could mix in some 35mm shots taken during the period, but it gave a very nostalgic, "home movie" feel to that part of the film.

So I'm more generous with my rating than you. I'd give it a 6 out of 10.

I think some of that was to give the viewer the feel of the 1950's.
Why would folks get that feel? Becuase TV gave us that impression, if we've seen any shows or ad's from that era.

Also that acting conveyed the idea that she and what she was doing were not what we assumed. So niave, yeah. Overly done?, maybe.

P.S. Miami really is that colorful, from the ocean to the architecture and landscaping.
