Wow, I stumbled on this movie at 4:30 in the morning. I kept wondering, is this film new or from the 1950s, because the look was so convincing. Finally I recognized some actors and realized that it was a new film. The actress that played Betty Paige was GREAT. But credit has to really be given to Mary Harron, a very talented director. Good film, should have got more promotion.
shareI agree, though a lot folks here seem to be 2nd guessing the casting & the film's accuracy, but I'm not overly concerned about that. I thought it was very entertaining & Gretchen Mol did a great job.

Yes I totally agree about the look and feel of this film. It really puts the viewer back in time with a great mix of black and white, colour and original stock footage, and the music and visuals give it a genuine old film feel.
Gretchen Mol was superb as Bettie page. And so was Lili Taylor who played the role of Paula Klaw. Very good film and alot better than most bio-pics.
I totally agree! The black and white was some crisp in light and shadows while the color the bursted out at you. Mary Harron is a great director with an excellent eye.

I loved the film. Its look. The way the actors played their roles which seemed more in keeping with the 50's than with modern acting. Also the innocence the film suggested around Bettie's modelling and the protective world within which she worked. Even if the latter is not accurate it gave the film a warmth and homeliness that I loved.

This was an incredibly delightful and almost perfect movie to watch. Unpretentious and so easy-going. It looked as if making it was an almost fun experience, so relaxed and natural. It had a great atmospheric period feel, which was doubly enhanced by the oh so appropriate music.
I knew Gretchen Mol from her part in 'Boardwalk Empire', but you could have bowled me over with a feather when I realized it was her playing a stunningly lookalike Bettie Page.
There should be more movies like this. It was a little gem and a masterpiece.
