Black + White?

I was going to buy the DVD until I noticed "black & white" on the box. A showstopper for me. I figured the film-makers were more interested in artsy over entertainment. I am probably dead wrong, but I am going to make a safer choice. Why market black & white films with a color DVD box? Either film in color or use a black & white cover photo.

The black and white classics were fine that way. But that was then, and color is now. This is not a real big thing, the lack of adequate lighting in most films is a big thing, although I understand that it can be expensive to pump up the lighting.

The film is a combination of b&w and color, used primarily to distinguish locations and/or time periods. It has nothing to do with lighting expenses. I would recommend renting it first, if only to catch Mol's superb performance.

Schindler's List anyone?? Black and white photography was simply amazing in that film, not to mention it's one of the greatest American films...also Good Night and Good Luck comes to mind. Black and white photography definitely has its place in modern film. It's updated and better quality and cigarette smoke would never look better in color than it does in black and white :)

even Sin city foir that matter.
I like the black and white in this film

Some of the early color scenes made me think of color 8mm film of that period.

Very well done I'm sorry they didn't have any notes on her later in her life I heard she did missionary work what a waste of such a fine woman. It would have been nice if they had shots of her when the feature was made.

I agree, I think it was that scene where she meets that guy in Florida on the beach

I also think it should have been in 3:2 not 16:9

Agreed, more movies should be in black and white. B&W is easier for getting a sense of "period." Many people thought the popular TV program "Combat!" went downhill when it switched to color for what was to be its last season. Color seems to make the anachronisms and obvious stage props stand out more.

Are you writing this from Planet Earth? I'm mean, seriously-

# 1 Black & white looks fantastic. More movies should be done in B & W. The reason they aren't is because apparently people out there will not watch them if they aren't in color. Like you? Thanks a lot!

# 2 If there was a memo circulated that movies that are in B & W can only have B & W photos on the DVD cover, I missed it.
