complete rip-off

this show is a complete rip-off of yu-gi-oh.

reply

I totally agree. I can't believe they haven't been sued for copying off of another show AND making it suck really bad.

This is the worst anime I have ever seen. Even worse than Pokemon.

If you don't like the show, don't watch it! It's not ment to go along the same lines as Yu Gi Oh, its a totally different type of anime compared to that. Yu Gi Oh was ment to be for teens (At least in Japan) Duel Masters is for anyone who wants to watch a lighter anime.
Like I said, if you don't like it, don't watch it.

You all say that its a rip off of Yu Gi Oh, or some other card game, however the makers of them haven't sued Duel Masters for copying their work. Or they wouldn't be shown over here.
I just like the way its been dubbed.

reply

I dunno about the dubbing... Tell me, is the Japanese version of this shows dialog (I probly spelled that wrong but whatever...) the same as the English? There are moments where I am just like "Wow, this reminds me of digimon's dialog sooo much." I can truely see how this show would remind one of Yu-gi-oh!. A really, really, really bad verson of Yu-gi-oh!. So how popular is this show in the US? From what I have seen it doesn't look like it is doing well at all.

Fat people hate DDR.

This show sucks! Along with these other crappy anime shows:

1. Pokemon
2. Yu-Gi-Oh
3. Beyblade
4. Monster Rancher
5. DragonBall Z

reply

I completely agree.

reply

Well actually I took Beyblade off the list of the anime shows that I think suck. Because I like it actually.

reply

Oh, I see. I think Beyblade sucks just as much as the others actually...

reply

Here's my new list of anime shows that I think suck:

1. Pokemon (use to like it but then when I got made fun of I stopped liking it)
2. Yu-Gi-Oh (liked it for a short period until it started to become popular and annoying)
3. Battle B-Daman (it copied off of Beyblade)
4. Monster Rancher (full of crap)
5. DragonBall Z

reply

Dragonball Z is WAY better than this *beep* Dragonball Z is actually worth watching! It has a good story and the dubbing isn't bad but it could do with some blood. Don't EVER even THINK about listing DBZ with the crappy shows in your list.

i agree with blueicephoenix..
And even thoug the game reminds a lot of yu-gi-oh
the TCG is completely different from yu-gi-oh
if duel masters are a complete copy of yu-gi-oh
yu-gi-oh is a complete copy of Magic the gathering!!!!

To take on duels is my quest
To BEAT em is my real test
Cause what i want to be
Is the VERY best

reply

Even worse than Pokemon.

But pokemon is awesome

reply

Yeah, that's what I thought, until I actually watched the show and realized that it's not, it's completely satirical of many of the shows in that genre. A take off, if you will, of several of them.

reply

Yeah, it actually tries to be irrevleant, and makes some jokes about the genre...so it's not that bad...

reply

Actually, I find this show very funny. I was never a big YugiOh fan(this coming from a guy that has been an otaku since the 2nd grade. Seriously! I went out and bought my first non-mainstream anime VHS(Galaxy Frauline Yuna) when I was in fourth. Now my collection has spawned over 40 volumes! Oh, gettin' off subject, aren't I?) But this show has the same kind of slapstick humor that I love so much. True, the original script was nothing like what we see on T.V.(honestly, do you think they made references to The Matrix and Greg the Bunny in Japan?), but the show is so funny that I drag myself out of bed in the morning just to watch it. And yes, there is a good reason to be reminded of Digimon when watching this, since Shobu is being done by Joshua Seth, the same comedy magician that did Tai. I give this 10/10, once of the best mainstream kids animes I've seen on T.V. in a good long while!

Actually, Yu-gi-Oh is a complete rip-off of Magic (the now even have to aknowledge that they use the Magic game rules) and Duel Masters has been in existence in japan for a while, starting as a manga for Magic fans. The game was developped and marketed in Japan a few years ago and then they adapted it as a cartoon to launch it in the rest of the world, as you do.

So Duel Masters isn't a rip-off of Yu-gi-ho per se since Yu-gi-ho rips-off the game Duel Masters is "adapted from".

And it's also much better than Yu-gi-Ho

Whoever thought of making this into a comedy should be shot in the head, run over many times, you get the idea.

No its not
Yu gi oh is not a magic rip off
Its only a show

reply

I don't understand why people take this show so seriously. It's ment to be a "PARODY" of various anime, most notably Yu-gi-oh. In one episode they even make a depracating reference to Yu-gi-oh, I don't remeber the quote exactly but it was something like: "That show about the Egyptian kid is pretty stupid." (I think they even show a silloutte of Yami-Yugi) The characters in the show break the fouth wall all the time, and even point out oddities in its own plot, animation, and script that show up in many anime.

The show is just trying to be funny not serious, and while its not the best of anime its defantly alot better then many people give it credit for. The plot is realy just a mechanism for getting from one joke or parody to the next.

If you want an over-serious card battle anime watch Yu-Gi-Oh, but if your in the mood for a light harted comedy that dosen't take itself seriously watch Duel Masters.
BTW I like both Yu-Gi-Oh and Duel Masters. Yu-Gi-Oh for being overly serious about a card game, magical powers, soul stealing, etc. Duel Masters for being a parody of Yu-Gi-Oh, light hearted, pop culture refences, subtle innuendo, etc.

Over half of the reason why the show sucks. It can't even get that part right.

And now for something completely different- a man with three buttocks.

reply

The game is much much more remniscient of Magic: The Gathering. Mana, tapping, blocking. Much more solid than YGO.

And please learn the difference between parody and rip-off.

reply

i use to like yu-gi-oh, but now i hate it because it gave me too many problems that it made my life miserable. so now i like duel masters much better. and that jerk predatory shouldn't tell anyone to shut up just because they have different opinions, so he needs to grow up.

reply

I don't know, I find this show more annoying than humorous. When it comes to card animes I'd stick with Yu-Gi-Oh. (On another note: The original Yu-Gi-Oh series that was never dubbed in English centered around a lot of different games, but the fans liked the episode that featured card games so much that the next seasons of the anime centered around that game. The show was also then produced by a different company and a bunch of other things, so, technically, Yu-Gi-Oh never ripped off Magic. The card game they played in the original was meant to be like a 3 episode thing and that wasn't enough time to even really point out rules. The game in those episodes is confusing and hard to follow.)

reply

Dude, Yu-Gi-Oh started as a MANGA, and in the MANGA they DID explain the rules--they even had a side-panel detailing how it was played.

The version they played in the first, 27-episode anime series was nothing like the version that appeared in the manga or the second and more popular anime.

The show overall is a complete ripoff, and the dub is a complete mockery of everything. When hearing a little kid saying to the other kid "fo shizzle" or something like that in the one episode where he tells him to "modernize" I just hung my head in shame. The only time I hear this is when I leave the TV on after Adult Swim in the morning, and its utter crap. When they have commercials during the duel matches that advertise a cola and the slogan is "JUST DUEL IT" who wrote this complete waste of dialogue?

reply

I seriously don't think this show is taking itself seriously. I doubt any serious dubbing would ever be this blatanly bad.

reply

ok, yugioh is not riped off, the games are completely diferent!
also, anyone so shallow that they can't accept others who like things they don't are nearsighted imbasiles, i don't like pokemon the show, and dbz got redundant, but others have the right to like it, otherwise we'd all become mindless atomitons, all doing the same thing, liking the same things, Boring!!! accept one another.
finally, the virsions here are altered to be crappy, like how yugi was a perverted kid who even had an episode with jounuchi (joey) lending him porn, and tea stole it from him not knowing what it was.

The actual Duel Masters card game which is now available in America is actually licensed to the people who make Magic: The Gathering. Yu-Gi-Oh! is done by a completely different company.
Actually, Yu-Gi-Oh was originally aimed at an older audience than it is for the English version. In the original Japanese version the kids were about 15-16 years old and in 1st year Senior High school (Year 10 or local equivalent). The reason the first series was removed was that 4Kids didn't think it was appropriate because many of the games that were played were dangerous and would not be suitable for the audience they adapted it for. One example was an occasion when Tea was working in a restaurant and a robber came and held her at gunpoint. Yugi convinces the robber to play a game where they were allowed to only use a finger and the items the robber requested (liquor, cigarettes, lighter). The robber was pouring his drink when he started and could not stop and Yugi put the lit ligher on the robber's hand. Eventually, the robber was burnt to death.
Obviously, this wasn't suitable for the audience the English version was aimed at, and so they removed the entire series because it contained many other similar games. And the porn incident of course.
