Funny part in the book - Kathy & Aaron

I just listened to the audiobook.

The Oedipal relationship between Kathy and Aaron (which I found amusing) was touched on a bit more in the book. One part that was alluded to in the movie in the scene where Kathy was laying in bed wearing sexy underwear with Aaron when Brad wanted to move Aaron to his own bed:

“… his pleasure was diluted somewhat by the thought, not the first time it had passed through his head, that she was a lot more likely to wear something sexy to bed on nights when she was home alone with Aaron. When Todd/Brad was around, she favored extra-large sweatpants in weird colors and t-shirts that hung to her knees.”
Lol.

People sure read a lot into things, in life and in books, and in media.
Don't they?

In books and in media, it is, by definition, contrived ... but in life most
of the time we can't be sure. There are a lot of malfunctions in memory
and what does it do to people to see so much contrived artificial
behavior? Do our unconscious minds let some of the artificial stuff past
and into our reflexive belief system?
