The other masturbation scene

A spouse interrupting the other whilst the latter is pleasuring him/herself ain't good, but it ain't all that bad. But the step further involving a stranger's foul (fair?) panties is another kettle of fish. Is there really an existing trade in women's dirty panties? Is the marriage already so broken down that the Winslet character just accepts this deviant behavior?

I have heard of panties being sold online. Probably ebay or somewhere I would guess. To each their own. As for catching your spouse masturbating. I dont think its that serious. If they were open about their sexuality she could have used it as an doorway to see what turns him on. Instead of view it as shameful, its not the 1950's anymore. If I caught my wife masturbating I wouldnt be angry, probably the opposite.

I agree. When Kate Winslet's character looked out for the swimwear I was surprised the intention was to get a grip on "Mr. Promking". Combined with the much later interpretation on the book and her behaviour regarding her daughter implied that there was a lot of more frustration present within the marriage than presented in the movie.

It wasn't so much that she walked in on him masturbating. That in itself would likely have gotten an embarrassed "Oops!!!" from Sarah.
But this was a husband who had no sexual (or regular even) interest in his wife.
He treats her like dirt. Then here, she walks in on him not only pleasuring himself, but pleasuring himself with another woman's panties on his head!

But since she has (so she thinks) Brad, she doesn't pay him much mind.
She already had been disgusted by his neglect of her.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.
