How boring is your life to constantly make a big deal out of nothing?
I've lived in a small town where everybody knew everybody and no crime went on. But still because the town was so quiet, people use to gossip a lot and make a big deal out of nothing that was any of their business. Ronnie getting in trouble for indecent exposure to a minor wasn't the worst thing in the world but because it was a quiet community people had to treat him like a serial killer. Talking about his release on TV, bringing it up during conversations in the park, having the cops called and freaking out every single child in the pool like there was a shark in the water with them or something, not to mention Larry breaking the law himself by heckling Ronnie. I didn't agree with Sara too much in the movie but I did agree with her when she said she couldn't believe that Mary Ann wanted him castarated for indecent exposure. I don't even think he raped anybody (at least that's not the impression I was getting) and personally I think everyone else was in the wrong more than he was. Because at least he did do time for it and was trying to get his life back together (even though nobody would let him) while every one else was treating him as if he did something terrible. Yes he did have that one moment of weakness in the car, but at least he didn't rape the woman he was with.
