How stupid can you be Ann Brashares?

Even after all these years, I find it incredibly stupid that Ann Brashares decides to set a book in a country she's never been to (Greece) and doesn't even consult a Greek person so see if the name Costos is actually a Greek name. It's not. It's Costas. ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR NAMES IN GREECE. They at least had enough sense to fix it in the movie. I wonder how Alloy Entertainment, the author and the publishers all missed this blatant error. Probably doesn't seem like a big deal to many people but it's still sloppy research and a huge error for the people writing, editing and publishing it.

If you want to understand how bad it sounds to a Greek, think of someone calling someone Bab instead of Bob. Big difference.

Where did you get the idea she's never been there? She actually states in an interview in one of the books (I forget which- one of the later ones I think) that she has been there, I believe partly for vacation and partly for research.

Also, not everyone in every country gives their kids traditional names. I know a Greek girl raised in Russia whose name is Mary. Neither Russian nor Greek.

Why did you get an F in English? DO YOU WANT THE BRITISH TO WIN???/? -George Washington?

Of course Mary IS a Greek name. It's another version from the name Maria, Mother of Jesus. It's Christian and it's greek!!!
