But you see, here in Europe we don't have test audiences, so the director's own vision ends up on screen. The Descent got its ending cut in the US, because the original ending was too bleak. So fricking what?? It was the way it was meant to be!
The producers put the money up. So the producer's way is the way it is meant to be. This is not merely the way the world works but the way real life works. If I pay for art then my way is how it's meant to be. Not the guy who makes it.
The Descent didn't get its ending cut. It got its ending changed. You're making a big deal out of nothing.
