THE ENDING????

ok someone help me out here, at the end when they showed tyler and the woman doctor at the coffee shop she says that it wants to get out????? then she suddenly gets up and runs from him, what the hell was that all about????? someone clarify please, thnx

reply

I think it means that she was probably one of them or that she had been bitten at some point but had managed to survive the cave.

reply

hmmmm yea i guess so, well they shoulda made a sequal....

reply

because she was infected and therefore compromised...didnt necessarily mean out of her.. but out of the cave. Otherwise they would not have brought up the whole "I didnt think jack could survive out of the cave enviorment" sentence...its a way to open up the sequel to this bomb of a movie.. she was wearing sunglasses where he wasn't. so maybe it could survive out of the cave enviorment.

reply

i see, i wonder how she got infected though, cause they didnt show that... owell.. this movie came out in 2005 its been 4 years, so i guess no sequal. blah

reply

Any of them could have been infected. They all had a chance to come in contact with the creatures at some point, even the smaller less adolescent versions of the creatures. Not to mention any waste or body fluids from the monsters getting into open cuts that they all probably had by the end of the movie. It's never too late for a sequel especially since they left it pretty open-ended. Not that I'm all gung ho about seeing another one.

reply

well id like to see a sequel, i mean if they can friggin remake every horror movie like Halloween and Friday the 13th, they can make another of the Cave....

reply

Oh you missed that.. It is implied that she got infected when they were sliding down the rapid current. The monster got her harness and pulled her away from Tyler, remember?
It must be minor scratch that's why it took longer to fully spread through her system...

reply

i don't remember when she became infected with parasite from cave

reply

That’s what I was thinking. Just in case there as a sequel.

At the end of the movie you'll will notice that she had a scratch on her forearm. They seem to make it a point to see it when she was talking to Tyler. I know it may not be it but something to consider if you watch it again.

reply

i guess i missed that, thnx

reply

There was a scratch on her forearm that was centre shot as they talked. Then when she leaned in to say goodbye you could see her eyes over the top of her sunglasses and her iris was starting to form into a cross shape (like the brother's had in the cave when he was infected). She was clearly infected.

This means she will eventually turn into one of the monsters. The Monster that killed the Japanese camera guy had a tatoo that was the same as the tatoo on the hand that set the bomb in 1980. The monstors were the guys from the opening scene who had become infected with the virus.

reply

She was infected. Her eyes had changed. You can see them, when she looks up at him over her sunglasses and Tyler sees them too. She runs because she knows Tyler now knows she's infected.

reply

she got infected.. I remember the scene where they are about to leave the cave, and kathryn was pulled back by the monster....If ever,on the sequel, kathryn would be a monster...

As I thought at the beginning of the story, there was a group of man looking for the cave. there was a man, who had a tattoo of v.s.s.f. or something and they fell off the ground. I thought that man(probably infected) was the monster who killed dr. nicolai( because the camera was pointed to the monster's arm and it has the tatoo of v.s.s.f.)...

I hope they make a sequel since there are 3 survivors...

reply

I suspect Kathryn was infected, and your post confirms it. Obviously they were leaving this open for a sequel, but I suspect there's little interest in that now. I wouldn't mind seeing a continuation of this film to answer some of the questions about the alien being and the tattoos.

This film has some decent special effects, but I would have preferred more of a story. And it borrows too liberally from "Alien" and "Jaws" and "Pitch Black" and a dozen other, much better films.

reply

I think the tatoo said USSR, b/c the guy was Russian.

reply

In the beginning of the film there is a close up of the hand of one of the guys who was buried alive when the church collapsed and V.S.S.F is tattooed just above his knuckles, so he clearly has become the monster who killed Dr. Nicolai because the tattoo was shown several times on the monster's hand. And at the end of the film she has got a definite cut on her arm so she could well have become affected. She says "At first I thought it could only survive in a cave environment. Now, I'm not so sure. I think it wants to get out". Then she runs away.

reply

I too thought it was a U.S.S.R brand on the monster. Coming out of the movie I thought the hint at the monsters being a Soviet biological weapon was the only interesting part and the sequel hook.

All evidence does point however at the tattoo being V.S.S.F, so that theory is redundant and I can happily forget this film.

Hmm, thats not what i got at all, i thought she deliberately infected herself(she was scientist) and could have easily have used one of her samples to get hurtself. She said " i think it wants to get out" to me that meant, she wanted it to get out for some reason, i dunno. Since she was a scientist, she knew she was infected, she could have easily turned herself in, but it didnt seem like she was about to, kinda like she did it on purpose . But i can also see others opinions of it too, i guess it just everyones own interpretation. Just my opinion.

I suspected she was infected at the coffee shop scene and the graze on her arm. It was confirmed when you could see her eyes had been changed, which made Tyler chase after her.

If there was a sequel, if wouldn't need to be set in the caves, just follow her and Tyler in Romania.

reply

Yeah, she would be more at home in those caves, much like Jack was starting to end up like the creatures. Her eyes were changing, she was definetely changing like Jack did.

It's time for a sequel! It's 2015 and I'm sure there's a perfect script. I think Cole Hauser's character will somehow get out and find a cure before he changes completely and track down the woman who was infected at the end of the first one to save her. Hope they can expand on this idea. Cheers!

reply

She didn't have to be scratched or bitten by the monsters to get infected. The organism was found in multiple places in the cave so they all could have been infected by different methods

reply

To be fair, we can't say for certain that she (even though she was infected) would mutate into the same kind of creature from the cave. I mean, considering that the parasite help mutate its host so they both can survive in a hostile environment, Kathryn's mutation might be completely different considering she is no longer in a cave. The creatures had adapted to become the perfect cave living predators so Kathryn might adapt more to the environment she chose to live in.

It's just my theory but I felt like the parasite were more like some kind of turbo-speed-up-evolution-help-to-survive thing then just stuff that turns you into a giant gargoyle man thing.
