Why were the story lines of Season 1 dropped when Season 2 started?

The last five eps or so of season 1 were not aired during season 1. In the hiatus between seasons 1 and 2, Monica Potter and Rhona Mitra both asked to leave the show. Rhona wanted to pursue movies and I think Monica Potter was pregnant. They wanted to start season 2 with the replacements but since they had 5 eps carry over from season 1, they decided to just edit those eps, film new storylines with the new cast. Wish they wouldnt have complete let some storylines go but I think it worked out.

I am thinking yes. Those storylines where probably even filmed but ended up being butchered off to Tue in New characters. Would ha e been great to see them as deleted scenes on the dvds.
