Do the heinous musical ques end?

I'm half way through the 1st episode and the musical ques are uncomfortably present. Everytime there's a little joke or a dramatic moment, there's a musical backing to it. It's a lazy cheap trick. It's a way to have a studio audience or a laugh track, but being more subtle about it. But it's not subtle.

Example, right when the guy walks into the meeting not wearing pants, all of a sudden there's weird sexy music playing and about 10 seconds of reaction shots before we get to see he's not wearing pants. Why did the directors or the producers not trust us to get the humor behind a guy not wearing pants? Not exactly a complicated bit. Guy's not wearing pants. That's the beginning and end of the joke. But you start the music and you give it this wind up and BOOM! THE PUNCHLINE! THERE IT IS! Oh, the guy's not wearing pants. Yeah, that's kinda funny... oh, he has serious stress and mental issues. We not going to going to go into depth on this? Alright then, moving right along!

ANYWAYS! Does this show get better with these or is this part of the show's DNA?

I know exactly what you're referring to, and no, it is there throughout the series. I, too, found it terribly irritating and distracting when I first tried watching this along with my husband (it was one of his favorite shows) but the music was just too annoying and I gave up. When it went into syndication I gave it another chance and got used to it to the point that it no longer detracted, and I now love the show. We're currently rewatching the series thanks to Netflix (DVD only) and I'm eagerly anticipating many of the series arcs. I hope you give it another go; it is worth it.

I watched all 5 seasons but I only recall the acting and the storylines.

The music was secondary in my thoughts I guess.

The theme song stands out more to me than the 'incidental' music.

The music in the show wasn't about conveying the joke of the scene, it was all about cultivating atmosphere. The music (and editing) of the show is constantly loud, quick, and in your face. Boston Legal projected mood this way and you kinda need to see the fun it's trying to have doing it in order to get on board.
