Little misunderstanding there - I actually meant what do the symbols themselves translate as into English?

Sure thing. I'm not Japanese, but I did do a lil' research back way when and found out some interesting stuff on those nine letters, aka: Kuji-In. I may not be correct in all this, but try searching a bit yourself to find out more.
Respectively, the symbols are denoted as: Rin, Kyo (or Pyo), Toh, Sha, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Zai, and Zen. Translating to: Strength of mind and body, Direction of energy, Harmony with the universe, Healing of self and others, Premonition of danger, Knowing the thoughts of others, Mastery of time and space, Control of the elements of nature, and Enlightenment.
There's history behind all this, however and though the source of it is practically unknown, it bares similarites Hindu and Tibetan Mundras. The practice of using these letters, or saying them, in conjunction to meditation and finger "cuts," or postures, were done by ninja and samurai during feudal Japan. Of course these methods were mainly used a ways of concentrating one's mind, but many movies and games portrayed this as and act of cojuring power, strength, or something similar to that.
Hope this helps. My source for most of this information comes from: <http://shell.world-net.co.nz/~jimgould/kujiin.html>

Really? I'll have to check that.
And thanks for replying to my question all of you - I was kinda skeptical whether I would get a reply, but I guess I was wrong...
