I don't know if Chris Cooper was nominated for either award, but he should have been. He was very convincing as a man leading a double life. On the outside he seemed like a conservative,religious man who was always telling Eric how he should live his life & go to church & get married, while on the inside he was a sexual pervert who was video taping his wife having sex for his friends to watch and betraying at least 50 human sources. Three are known to have been executed by the KGB. Ryan Phillipe once said Chris Cooper was the best actor he's ever worked with.

Nominated, definitely - Cooper always seems capable of turning in a good performance and this one's undoubtedly one of his most outstanding. However, it so happened there were two little problems in 2007 to contend with... the first problem being Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood and the other one P.S.Hoffman in Before The Devil Knows You're Dead - two performances I'd probably count as some of the greatest ever. So I'm afraid Cooper would have to do with the glorious third prize there.

I actually watched this movie because Cooper was in it. Fascinating, even if some of it was made up.
