Larry, after all this waiting, it's kinda hard to believe that Fierce People is finally getting released in the U.S. Thanks for the link.

Here is a link to Variety's blurb on the Fierce People premiere ...

Once again, I sure hope that this expands beyond those initial ten cities!!!

What's fascinating is that it seems that Anton's being cast in Star Trek is actually bringing the film more attention than it might otherwise have received. Who knew?

Larry, I actually speculated about this possibility back on August 8th on a Kristen Stewart thread which I had begun the day before titled, Kristen's September movies.

On the second paragraph I wrote, "On a positive note I see that Anton Yelchin has just been cast to play Chekov in the upcoming Star Trek film. I hope that some Trek fans will go see Fierce People and help it expand beyond those top ten markets."

Interestingly, this was when I thought that Fierce People would open in N.Y. & L.A. on September 7th and then expand to the eight other cities on the 14th, which explains my first paragraph on that post. The following day, August 9th, was when you posted that it would open in the ten cities on the same day.

My post can be found here >>> http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0829576/board/thread/81865447?d=81963687&p=1#81963687

I started that thread on August 7th by providing two links, the first to Ain't It Cool's "almost perfect" review of Into the Wild by Moriarty and the second to the new trailer for Fierce People.

I'm still uncertain about the release platform.

FilmJerk list the top 10 for September 7.
http://www.filmjerk.com/earlyreport/article.php?id_eol=454

BoxOfficeMojo lists 2 screens for the 7th and the top 10 on the 14th.
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/schedule/

IMDb, which lists all theaters for films from now until next Saturday, shows nothing at all for Friday the 7th.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0401420/cinemashowtimes?location=map;date=2007-09-07

And according to the film's MySpace, the film opens in "select cities" on the 7th and lists only one location:

Regal Union Square Stadium 14
850 Broadway
New York, NY 10003

So it'll only be playing in New York City, and in only one theatre on Manhattan's west side, eh? Talk about a limited release!!!

While visiting Fierce People's myspace page I happened to click on the "Fierce People Coming to New York" blog and read the following:

"Mark your calendars, New Yorkers. Fierce People will launch its theatrical run in N.Y.C. Friday, September 7. ...

"Depending on how things go that weekend, we'll launch in more cities throughout September. ..."

Boy that "Depending on how things go that weekend" line is kind of disheartening. I fear that it will never expand to Miami now. I even wonder whether the other nine cities will get to see it. But then again, as long as they release the DVD, which I will buy (not rent), then I'll be satisfied.

Anyway, have a great trip to Toronto, Larry!

The thing is, I'm seeing the film mentioned in national magazines and newspapers all over the country as one of the films coming this fall. So my gut tells me that there will be a decent expansion or the press wouldn't be covering it as they are.

Brokeback Mountain opened on 5 screens before eventually going over 2000.

Transamerica opened at one theater in NY before eventually hitting 656.

Fingers crossed, but I feel pretty confident.

OK, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, I like the new website. >>> http://www.fiercepeoplemovie.com

Also, according to this >>> http://www.fiercepeoplemovie.com/theaters.html, I see that it will actually open in two Manhattan movie houses on Sept. 7th and then open in three in L.A. the following week. Nothing about the eight other cities though or further expansion after that, but my fingers are crossed even though it makes typing this a lot more difficult.
