I just had a couple questions after seing the film, and wondered if perhaps the book makes things a liitle more clear in the end: 1) Does anyone ever question Osborne's cause of death - does Bryce ever do time for any of the crimes he committed? 2) Does Osborne leave anything to Finn or his mom? 3) What relation is McCallum to the Osbornes? Cousin?
I didn't read the book but the dvd's special features has a few deleted scenes, one of which is titled something along the lines of "Mental Institute & Will Reading". They sent Bryce to a mental institute instead of jail but he seemed rather happy, the clip showed a fellow patient shooting homemade drugs into Bryce's nose. Following that scene is Finn walking into his apartment back in NY to find his mom with the Osbourne estate lawyer. I'm pretty sure they got most of the estate and Osbourne included a note for Finn telling him to do good things or something. I just watched it but I can't remember the exact words, lol.
I think they said McCallum was a cousin... but I'm not sure. I really can't remember.
The parking lot crusade of truth. (I Heart Huckabees)
I read it about a year ago, so I don't remember accurately, but Osborne leaves Finn a lot of money in the book. And Bryce gets sent to work with the Fierce People as punishment I think, and he can never come back or something. I don't actually remember how Osbourne dies in the book, but I don't remember him being murdered.
Also there's a character (Peyton?) who gets killed in a fire that Bryce starts. And Finn's Mother doesn't find out about the rape. AND Maya and Finn have a final night together when he moves back to New York, and in the morning he isn't sure if it was a dream or not.
So quite a lot of differences. Which annoyed me. Casting was pretty perfect though.
** spoilers for the book (because it's different from the movie) **
1. They don't say how he died in the book. I was expecting it to be the same/similar to the movie, but they never say. I think we're supposed to assume natural causes, but that Osborne knew he didn't have much time left
2. In the book, Osborne sends his lawyer to Finn and leaves him a lot of his companies.
3. I don't think the McCallums are related to the Osbornes. The McCallums are one of the richest families in Vlyvalle after the Osbornes.
The Connection Between them and the osbournes is that The Story avout deadhorsing is true but what is not put in is the fact that osbourne got retribution for the maid by having MacCallum Beaten up and that is how gates becomes chief of police. And the world spins madly on....
