Anyone get a Caddyshack vibe? Without the laughs.

Maybe it was the period in which they set this (1980) or the culture clash of the working class and filthy rich, maybe it was the drug and experimental teen sex scenes. I can't put my finger on it but I think the writer & director tried to create some of the same elitist country club early 80s dope smoking caricatures (like Spalding or Ty Webb, seen here as a conglomerate character named Bryce, played by Chris Evans) This film was good on its own merit and I found it annoying that they purposely evoked some of that earlier film. It felt forced is what I'm saying. Anyone pickup on this or am I just weird?
