reply

i think they switch it to the mom being raped

reply

That's equally as bad. Nobody should get raped!!!
mmm....padded walls....so soft...

reply

if the mom gets raped the entire story line would have to change direction...at least from reading the book i dont see how that would work.

reply

they did not change it

That's kind of sadistic.

reply

It's not rape if you want it. lol

reply

Well i don't think he "wanted it"! Pretty much what i saw was that he was ambushed by a crowd and one of them took him by force. That's what rape is, my friend.

reply

Nobody should get raped? this is a movie, why should there not be rape in movies? it is part of reality... In the movie it is not shown, but implied. It plays a role in an important storyline, so it is functional.

reply

Watch the movie.

reply

Forget about seeing The Kite Runner, then.

In the book he has to be told but in the movie he remembers exactly what happened that night.

reply

Yes it is the same in the movie. He remembers it but just doesn't want to talk about it. The mother definitely does not get raped.

reply

Wrong. He knew what happened to him and begged his mom not to tell anyone. In fact, he tried to hide it from her at first.

Where did you get the idea that he didn't know what happened to him? I swear sometimes people get on these boards and just make stuff up. Maybe kids or something.

SPOILERS

There was a male rape scene but it is not fully seen. In the scene when Finn is running off and we expect him to go to Maya who had promised this would be his night. But he gets jumped running across the estate. The voice over says at that point that with the Iskanani people, rape is a part of warfare. The raped warrior is so humiliated that his warrior spirit abandons him (or her which would be logical but the voice over only speaks about men. It then says that to recover his spirit, the warrior must find the rapist, cut his heart out and display it to the tribe regaining his pride and standing. (All reports I've read about rape to either gender speaks of victim feeling unclean and humiliated even though the worst thing they've done is may be to be in an unsafe place which doesn't make it their fault). After that voice over, I was expecting the attacker tio rape Finn. However, there is nothing visual depicting that even by implication. Finn's wish to not have anyone know about it re-enforces the idea that he was raped in the attack. I think his mother saw evidence when examining his lower back about what actually happened as she become more horrified and then agrees to not say anything. for all her faults, she cared enough about him to not further humiliate him in front of people whose opinion he cared about.

While it was certainly a kind of rape, I think it's much more likely that it was with an implement, not the rapist having anal sex with the victim. The latter wouldn't have left the kind of visible wounds that his mother reacts to when she looks him over the next day.
