If they had done this movie in English it would have won a thousand awards, including the Academy Awards it want's even nominated to.
Like this movie, or not, it is good, and it should have received the exacts same recognition it would have gotten with Johnny Depp on the lead and in English.
It was nominated for four Academy Awards, but as with most of the time, many deserving movies never win. And as for Johnny Depp getting it an award... Depp seems to be a jinx when it comes to the Oscars. He hasn't ever won one, no matter how deserving his part was.
It is an American film. It has an American director and producer and the guy who wrote the script is American and they wrote it in english. They just decided to use the french language.
It was nominated for 4 Oscars. I've seen the english dubbed version of "Diving Bell And The Butterfly" and it made no difference to the film's quality: It's still a spectacular film. Besides, you're forgetting that the Oscars are American, they're for the American film industry so they're going to want to honour american films more than foreign ones. Just because a film wins an Oscar doesn't automatically make it better than every other film made that year, they aren't the definitive answer on what the best film made in that particular year was.
This is true. I personally believe the oscars are polically motivated when it comes to awards, I mean why would you choose The Hurt Locker over a ground breaking, $2bn busting, future proofing and technologically trend setting movie like Avatar? Politics! because it's seen as the right thing to do, because our boys in AFG are taking IED hits in real life.
Not sayig that TDBaTB is better than NCFOM or TWBB (as I don't believe it is), but I'm just talking in a generalistc sense
