siphon my gas?

at the end of the movie the bartender siphons Cusacks gas from his Mercedes, isn't that pretty much impossible with modern cars?

Why would it be impossible? Is there an "Antisiphon" filter or somthing? I have no clue. Tis an interesting point though. Good work for noticing that!

There is a small screen in the filler tube that allows liquids to flow through but blocks hoses and such from being inserted.

Well I never knew that, makes perfect sence though.

Is that really a neccessary comment? Grow up.

And good point about the siphoning. I didn't realize they did that with the screen but it makes perfect sense.

You might want to go to the doctor. Tell him your sense of humor is broken.

Ooooh, I give it a 4/10 on the funny scale.

Well, the story was originally set in 1979. They added cell phones to make the story seem more in modern day. They did have Cusack destroy his phone in the movie in order to make the story work and seem more like the 1979 setting of the original story. It wouldn't have worked as well if Cusack could call Vic and ask him where he was. Anyways, to get back to the original question, the gas siphoning was probably left over from the original story, but because most people wouldn't think of a tiny screen in the gas line, just ignored that fact.

first of all siphoning gas is still as possible as it ever was. i am a desigren for a company that makes the fuel fill pipes. there are anti rollover valves but that doesnt prevent siphoning. that is why they sell locking gas caps.

There's a small mesh net like things on newer model Dodge vehicles that (kind of) blocks hoses, but a small knife easily rectifies that. I know this from that massive blackout that affected New York City and various areas of the midwest a couple years back. None of the gas stations were working and my cousin and I went around syphoning gas from every car on the block because he needed to get back to Kalamazoo that day. It worked on every car--new or old--but the newer Dodge ones had this flexible screen thing that we poked a couple times with a knife.

It's definitely possible. Last summer when gas was over $1.15 a litre (canadian) a lot of people were getting gas stolen.

reply

You're admitting to stealing people's gas, perhaps from a pregnant woman's car who needed to get to the hospital. As the movie would say, you have no character.

reply

I saw this with a friend lats night and she said that her dad did what the character in the movie did, so apparently it's possible. Depends on the make and model of the car, perhaps, but it's possible.

It's also possible to siphon gas with a shop vac.

reply

Maybe he and his brother asked the owners of those cars first?

reply

"siphon my gas!"
