Rent Blue Velvet Instead...

Lots of folks have mentioned Fargo as the inspiration for Ice Harvest, but don't forget about Blue Velvet.
Do you want a movie about the dark underbelly of heartland America?
Do you enjoy the ironic juxtaposition of horrible acts commited to a soundtrack of "innocent" music?
Like seeing severed body parts?
Rent Blue Velvet. Way better. Way weirder. And a story where all the loose ends come together in a much more satisfying way (unlike Ice Harvest!).

Better yet, rent both. Fargo and Blue Velvet are both very high on my list of all time favorites.

Blue Velvet is probably my favorite film of all time, and Fargo ranks very high for me as well. Ice Harvest isn't on that level, but it's a good, nasty little neo-noir. It features great work from Cusak, Platt and Thornton and is a real surprise coming from Harold Ramis. It would make a good double-feature with Insomnia (Swedish version) or Blood Simple.

It falls into cliche during Randy Quaid's big scene, but the dock sequence is classic. It's miles above nonsensical tripe like Clay Pigeons. If you like these actors and enjoy a bleakly funny, Billy Wilder-like sensibility, it's worth watching.

I bought it because it was 10 bucks in Target. Not bad, I thought it was worth it.
