Six Flags?

It kinda seems odd that they'd be going to an outdoor amusement park on Christmas Day huh?

It shows how out of it Sidney is. He's just not thinking that the place will be closed. He's going to drive all that way and it will be closed! I thought it was hilarious!

reply

it's open in texas. they call it holiday at the park. i guess it's closed everywhere else?

Open on Christmas Day? The Six Flags in Missouri is NOT open on Christmas day. I checked on the Six Flags website. I live in Chicago, & know for a fact the Six Flags here is not open. The one in Cleveland is also not open. Only the Six Flags in warm weather area's are open for Christmas, as WHO is going to ride a roller coaster when it's -8 degrees? He didn't say he was going for a few days, so I find it highly unlikely he was going to the park in Texas. Which means we was probably going to the one in Missouri, which was going to be closed!

Actually, I assume he was going to the one in Fort Worth. It's not that far from Wichita.

I'm guessing you're the one who listed it as a goof on the website. The only one who goofed is you. Six Flags over Texas is the closest Six Flags to Wichita, not the Colorado or Missouri one. If I knew how to get a goof removed from the goof page, I would.

reply

They are going to Six Flags St. Louis. The one in Texas is a little closer (maybe an hour at most) and, unlike the one in Texas, Six Flags St. Louis definitely is not open for Christmas. However, Charlie, we know, is heading to Kansas City. He's on I-35. If one were going from Witchita to St. Louis, you'd go by way of I-35. Going to Texas, you would not. More simply put, Kansas City is on the way to St. Louis, but not to Fort Worth (or, for that matter, anywhere in Colorado).

reply

According to mapquest.com, the route from Wichita, KS to Fort Worth, TX includes 315.4 miles on I-35S while Wichita, KS to St. Louis, MO includes a shorter stretch going the other way on I-35N. However, they both start out on US 400E. Seeing as how the actual movie was shot in Illinois, none of these were the roads shown. One has to make assumptions. Now, Fort Worth, TX is closer and it's open on Christmas Day so logically that is where they're headed.

Don't know where you got your information but I-35 splits just north of Denton, Texas. I-35W runs just west of Fort Worth and I-35E runs just west of Dallas. The interestate joins south of Dallas to become just plain ole I-35 again.

But perhaps, DSaga350 is talking about someother I-35 or perhaps an Interstate in some other country. And one other note, I-35 is a north-south road, not an east-west road.

I think that DSaga was refering, in part to I-35 north, going to Kansas City.
400 E is another word for Kellog Ave. You can reach I-35 from I-135 in Wichita.

It is important to note that if one were driving from Wichita to Dallas/FW area, they would take I-35 SOUTH out of KS and through Oklahoma. It's a shorter drive to DFW than in is to St Louis though.

I don't know if that clears anything up, but there you have it.

reply

They hadn't reached the Interstate yet, though. They were still on your average 2-lane US/state highway.

Ummmm - guys. Wasn't this film set in Witcha Falls in Texas? I might be wrong. I'm not American.

reply

No. It was set in WF, in Kansas. I do not know of any WF in Texas, thou I guess their could be. But in the movie, they make a point of mentioning they are in Kansas.

Actually, there is no Wichita Falls in Kansas - only in Texas right on the Oklahoma border. That is one of the "mysteries" of the film that is never satisfactorily explained, as it is explicitly mentioned that the movie is set in Wichita, Kansas on several occasions.

Actually, I-35 will take you within a very short distance of the Six Flags in the Dallas area. In fact, I-35 is a straight shot from Wichita to Dallas and a straight shot from Wichita to Kansas City but you can't get to St. Louis on I-35. You have to head east on I-70 out of KC. However, you are correct that KC is more on the way to StL than going to DFW. So, I guess I just got confused on exactly what you were trying to say.

THANK YOU!!!
World Series with StL Cards VS KC Royals = "I-70 Series", as in the main route between the two cities, and I-70 DOES become a 2-lane highway through most of Missouri (farmland areas, outside any city areas (St Louis to Wentzville, Columbia, etc)

Six Flags StL/Eureka - open WEEKENDS in April/May (until schools let out for summer/Memorial Day, whichever comes later), open thru summer, then WEEKENDS again once school start/Labor Day thru Hallowe'en wkd (altho more wkd after, last few years).

There is NO WAY 6F-StL is open in winter months! Only people there are security and office people, arranging the upcoming season's schedule/programming/whatever.
(my cousin and his wife work security there. I'd ask for more details, but it would be next week before he would let me leave!)

I grew up in KC and drove I-70 many times. I don't think it is ever a 2-lane highway, if by 2-lane you mean one lane in each direction. It's an "interstate", which I believe by definition means it is always at least 2 lanes in each direction. I could be wrong.

When I watched the movie I assumed the guy was taking his family to the Ft. Worth Six Flags. It's a little closer to Wichita than the St. Louis Six Flags, and as others have mentioned it's more likely to be open over the Christmas holiday because of the warmer weather in TX.

As for which highway they were on, they could have just been on a local Wichita highway. Just because one is heading to Ft. Worth (I-35 South)and one is heading to KC (I-35 North) doesn't mean they couldn't be on the same local highway heading to I-35.
