My girlfriend pointed out the fact that the film starts by showing all the races Herbie won in his glory days, but when he makes a come back, no one ever mentions this or seems to remember him at all. You would think the sports comentaters and race car fans would have all known exactly who Herbie was and they could have played this up. "Herbie is back but can he compete with todays competition?" "Herbie wins again!!" Would have been a great addition.
shareI doubt they'd believe it's the same car but rather a replica. Most race cars don't last more then a few years, either being outdated compared to the competition or just having the parts get worn out in general where the cost of repair is more then the cost of replacing it with a new vehicle.
shareMaybe this was written and filmed to be more stand alone, but later someone decided to insert footage from the previous films, making it a more obvious sequel.
