Don Jones?

Anyone wonder why they didn't bring back Don Jones for a Cameo appearence?

Well, for starters, how about because his name is "Dean" Jones?

It seems that Dean Jones is cast in every other herbie movie. He was in the first one, then the third one, and the fifth one. I believe he was also in the TV series but I don't know much about it since I can't find it anywhere. And for those that are liek "THIS IS THE FIFTH ONE! It's not. Heres a rundown of what I mean.

The Love Bug - Dean Jones.
Herbie Rides Again - No Dean Jones.
Herbie goes to Monte Carlo - Dean Jones and Don Knotts
Herbie Goes Bananas - No Dean Jones, just an annoying little kid
The Love Bug (1997) TV Movie - Dean Jones had a cameo with Bruce Campell
Herbie: Fully Loaded - No Dean Jones.

I believe he's retired from acting anyway, and he probably asked to be in the TV movie or 'was asked', and he did it, and it turned out to be the best part of the movie. I'd probably go with "he wasn't in Fully Loaded because it was a major motion picture, and he is retired from acting, though that is not confirmed by me at this time." Plus, Like I said, as continuity shows he only seems to be cast in every other herbie movie. So if my calculations are correct, he might be in the next one if it gets made, and he is still able to perform and not lying 6 feet underground.

Yea it would have been cool if he at least did a small cameo appearance. I was expecting to see him sitting in the stands watching Herbie in the final race or something. It would have been cool to see.

They reference the 1982 TV series in the menu, under "movie connections." Dean Jones is in it.

reply

You mean Dean Jones. Good question. Maybe he was retired. He only passed away last year.

Dean hadn't done much in the years following his appearance in the 1997 film. Or even much after this one. Likely he wasn't interested, or Disney didn't bother to ask. Could be any number of reasons. Kids at the time might have been familiar with Herbie, but perhaps the film-makers figured none of them would remember Jim Douglas. Or maybe the writers couldn't find any room for him.
