Why Was Yuri So Happy About...

The end of the cold war? I never understood why he was so ecstatic. Can someone explain this part of the movie to me.

Sure you even understood the movie? If you don't understand this, you can't possibly have watched it very well, or understood any of it.

Anyway he was so happy about it because.. One, his family was from there, and had pretended to be jewish to escape persecution (weird, but true). So the government that had troubled his family was now gone. Two, and this is WITHOUT A DOUBT the main, and maybe even only reason he was so happy, was that with the government gone, with an uncle who was now a general of an army with no leaders, and no one to pay them, saw that he was about to become monsterly rich.

Its basically the reason he became the top gun runner.

don't know if this is what you meant but the main reason was the weapons(and not the unpaid army etc.).

yuri earlier mentioned how it was much cheaper to dump remaining weapons/tanks/choppers and buy new than to arrange transport for everything... in effect it meant that the army's vast supplies were now ripe for the taking and yuri obviously got access to the entire arsenal via his uncle.

The same reason vultures are happy when armies do battle.

Voting Democrat over Republican is like asking your rapist to use a condom.
