OSCAR?

Just watched this on DVD today and had been getting a Oscar feeling when I was watching it. Was surprised when I found out that this got not a single Oscar nod...I think this is in a sense similar to Blood Diamond, and BD ended up with 5 nods. Thoughts?

It´s simple.... the academy is run by double moral idiots, this movie was about reality, how this things happen and how nobody does anything about it, and why it can´t be stopped.... Blood Diamond on the other hand is also a movie that deals with something real, but in that movie the characters "redeem" themselves and find "peace" in doing the right thing, DiCaprio ends up helping the guy, he misses the opportunity of getting rich and of course he is punished for it´s sins by dying, solomon ends telling his story and getting standing ovations for it. That´s why Blood Diamond was nominated and this one wasn´t, the academy loves underdogs and people who are so good that god himself wants to huge them, in other words fantasy stories, even if they are real those stories are only "based" on the real one. which means that no good guy is going to die, not unless he finds "peace" and people loves him.

-Lord of War (2005) - 10/10 (a masterpiece (i don't fling that word around often). one of my top top films out of the 1450+ total films i have seen. because while i can't pick a single favorite film with any certainty this would definitely be in the running for my #1 film ever simply because there is no film out there that i could clearly choose over this so that basically means Lord of War is either tied with other films or just outright better ;) )

-Blood Diamond (2006) - 9/10 (maybe a 8.5) (this is a solid film to but Lord of War is definitely better in my mind)

but i think arisc-1 makes a good point as the way Lord of War plays out probably keeps those Oscar types away from it even though it's easily the best film of 2005.

p.s. Andrew Niccol (the director of Lord of War) makes memorable films at the end of the day as he's not failed me yet on the 4 films he's done which are...

-Gattaca (1997) - 8/10 (somewhere between my 4th-6th favorite film of 1997)
-S1m0ne (2002) - 8/10 (i think this is underrated. it's my 4th favorite film of 2002. )
-Lord of War (2005) - 10/10 (a masterpiece. easily my #1 film of 2005)
-In Time (2011) - 8/10 (my 2nd or 3rd favorite film of 2011 out of the 68 films i have seen so far but it's likely to be a lock for Top 3 even though there is roughly a handful of films i still need to see for 2011)

i am looking forward to his 'The Host' (2013). Niccol makes memorable films at the end of the day.

Gattaca was great but I haven't seen Simone or in Time.

I prefered this to Blood Diamond. More entertaining and cynical.

This movie is not oscar worthy. Not one performance is worthy of any award. This is physically entertaining but nothing deeper can be gleaned from this.

Just another flick like Scarface with guns instead of cocaine
