Bullet Intro budget?

Anyone know roughly how much it would cost to have that intro done?

$100,000? $500,000? Etc?

reply

Nowhere near that range.
If it was, I'd be a millionaire.

Give me $10,000 and I'd pull it off.
But the money would be spent on food and travel more than anything else.

If you're shooting the required scenes within driving distance, the cost would halve.

It was probably shot piece by piece as they filmed in each location, then edited together, so not at huge cost really.

it was cool though

Definitely.

Reminded me of "Stray Bullet" from Organized Konfusion.

I'd love to see that.

I'm guessing, but I'd imagine WAY more. In the millions, easy. The CG, the editing, the travel to multiple locations, equipment, c'mon! Niccol mentions (IIRC) in the director's commentary that it was a struggle to get it done, and they weren't sure whether they'd have the time/funds to do it. And this is a movie with an estimated budget of $50,000,000..

not so sure about the cost... for that level of polish, it would probably take many hundreds (if not thousands) of man-hours. you can probably imagine how many shots may need to be redone to get the stitching correct. the rest of it is probably quite a bit of CGI.

but it truly is an amazing shot! very very poignant, drives the audience straight into the film's perspective, and still tells a clear story (birthplace of Yuri/bullet is Odessa, Ukraine). i wish more movies had such innovative AND purposeful shots!

as opposed to bland "establishing shots" which cost gazillions for the 3D CGI + orchestra. if these visually gorgeous shots were to be put up in art installations somewhere... well, maybe. but for a 10 second spot in a movie? it HAS to do more.

reply

the CGI itself is fairly cheap. the on scene shots are slightly more expensive. but you literaly need to pay a few standins and find the right spot. thats pretty much it. a few good small cameras and you can get all the shots together easily.

If that was the case, world would be full of sight to behold pictures and videos, now it's a ratio of about 100 to 1.
