I keep thinking that this film and Blood Diamond are two unrelated parts of a trilogy, with the third film just waiting to happen. They even basically end at the same point!(the year 2000)

Part III of the trilogy is I'm the Captain Now (2015), starring Tom Hanks, a cargo ship captain who after surviving piracy, begins smuggling drugs out of Africa. Due for release late 2015.
