Jess dad was an hard working man who do anything for his family. I remember the scene when Jess's mom tell him he need to wear a girl shoes. When the dad come, he right away seen that Jess is upset, seen the shoes and immediately understand Jess point of view, and tell his wife they need to buying him a new shoes. It's not a person who think that his son is a nuisance. It's true he sometimes preoccupied with the family financial difficulties, but when Jess need him he was there.

And yes, the scene when Jess blaming himself for Leslie's death made me crying too.
Very underrated movie and one of the few intelligent family movies we seen in the 21 century.
