I think Josh's acting is a little underrated in this movie

Most of the threads are about AnnaSophia's beautiful acting, which I agree is true and she's a good actress, but honestly, Hutcherson's acting was terrific. He's a complete opposite of what his character is and still managed to catch his feelings and emotions perfectly. I was impressed by how amazing he played his character, it's just, his facial expressions were so real.

Josh is indeed a great actor as well, and that includes a notably impressive performance in BtT.

Is he any more underrated than AnnaSohpia? I would say no. AnnaSophia gets some fairly high recognition for this movie, but most times people reference Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a poor choice for promoting her skills, in my opinion.

Back to Josh...

He's a complete opposite of what his character is

I would disagree. He almost always portrays the awkward kid, although, does come out of his shell so to speak every so often. In addition, his interviews show similar traits, a friendly boy / guy that's adorably a little secluded and tamed.

Even if it doesn't seem like his character portrayals are a stretch from his real personality, that doesn't mean they're not impressive. In fact, AnnaSophia is extremely similar to Leslie, which is in part why she was chosen. However, the decision lay mostly on her passion for the story and the initiative of desiring a chance at the role.

As a closer... The other projects I enjoyed Josh in were The Hunger Games, The Forger, The Kids Are All Right, Zathura, Little Manhattan, and the Journey series, which all have him as the loner-type that the audience can get behind.

I think I've watched an interview where he said he's definitely not like his character at all and this role was a challenge for him :)

Hhhmmm.. I found a couple where Josh mentions he's different, but doesn't elaborate.

All I can interpret is that he's (a little) more outgoing and confident than Jess.

After (re)watching these interviews, I will go as far as retracting my opinion somewhat. I'll maintain that Josh still has this slightly loner, awkward vibe from his actions, which isn't a bad thing, simply an observation.

Hmm, I've only seen 3 films with Josh in it. One I hated because it was incredibly stupid (seriously, Mr. trained killer and crew, you're just going to camp underneath the tree instead of, you know, going around the tree to shoot arrows at your enemy) so I couldn't focus on the his acting.

Another I saw so long ago that I don't remember the plot (Zathura) and BTT, so I may not be the best judge. But I agree with you, his acting was pretty good. JH and ASR were perfect together.

My guess is that you're speaking of Red Dawn (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1234719/), although, I've never seen it because it sounded a little too lowbrow for me.

Nah, Hunger Games. It was one of those movies/shows that gets boring part way through and you just leave it on in the background.

Didn't even know they made another Red Dawn. Although I can't take anything with Thor in it seriously because that's just who he is to me.

Well I have to admit that even though I understand why many people don't like Red Dawn but aside from the fact that it wouldn't be possible for a bunch of young people fighting and winning the war that happened in the movie I enjoyed it quite well.
