That's true actually, because when I was watching the movie I was a bit bored at times, when I saw that she died I was shocked

That's also the only reason the book was written, because the author wanted to help her son cope with the loss of a friend, who was struck by lightning.

I hate to say it, but I agree with you. I'm not saying the book was poorly written; I'm just saying that it's a pointless book/movie if Leslie doesn't die. I read an interview with the script writer, and he said studios wanted him to cut out Leslie's death. He told them no. Smart guy. Cutting out her death defeats the point of the movie.
