Where in the film do they state that Precinct 13 is in downtown Detroit? Because from what I saw of the Precinct it was far out on the skirts of the city, you know where the urban meets the rural? If it was downtown then 20+ guys surrounding a police HQ and using it as a shooting range would maybe get noticed by someone, even on a snowy day.

Fullmetaljackie and I are white cracker folk from the suburbs, so usually when we say "downtown Detroit" we just mean anything south of 8 Mile. ("Detroit, City Of" as opposed to Metro Detroit.)

Well, maybe because the 13th Precinct is in downtown Detroit. I promise you there aren't any forests or wooded areas there. Would have been more realistic to the setting if the final hunt was in an abandoned warehouse or manufacturing plant. Oh well, it's a movie and it was entertaining.

I was more than a tad surprised when that forest popped up too, then I realized the logical explanation; an old Christmas tree sale lot was abandoned 7 or 8 decades ago, & the little trees are all growed up.
yeah, wtf (what the forest) indeed. An abandoned warehouse woulda been a lot more fitting.

I've never been to Detroit, but I was too. A forest within walking distance of a industrial/warehouse/urban setting? Like the SWAT flying in on helicopters without the uptown brass knowing about it, I think it's best just to suspend disbelief.

I wouldn't call them forests so much as terrifying little scrub patches that you couldn't pay me to walk through day or night. Still a proud Detroiter, though ;)

yes there is one area, near I-94 that has a dozen blocks where there is litterally nothing, just grass and yes trees - and as spookyrat says what looks like a factory next to it (this being 10 minute drive from downtown)

zoom in and streetview or use 45 degrees

Ok, I think I know what you're talking about. The factory that kind of looks like the one in Hostel?

reply

Have not seen Hostel in a while lol

The factories nearby don't seem derelict

Do you mean the Packard plant?:

No, but I LOVE that place! I'm a huge fan of urban ruin photography, so of course Detroit is excellent for that, if nothing else, lol. My friends & I used to sneak into places like that all the time & took the most amazing photos. The Brush Park neighborhood will always be my favorite. It's so surreal today!
