The lantern scene might be the best example of Disney magic there is

I used to be a pretty unapologetic basher of the revival movies, but I'm not sure I can think of a single scene that so perfectly embodies the hope and romance that is the Disney hallmark than this.

It's so beautifully animated, and then add to that how Flynn and Rapunzel (easily the most developed Disney couple) are finally admitting their feelings for each other while Rapunzel is simultaneously realizing her lifelong dream, and you can see the supportive love on Eugene's face as she does this - magic.

Other possible contenders are:

- Beauty and the Beast dance
- Prince fitting Cinderella's shoe
- Prince kissing/waking Snow and Aurora

However, with all three of the old-school princesses, I feel like there just wasn't enough character development (certainly not in the case of their princes, with the possible exception of Phillip) for the magical moment to resonate as much. BatB is a strong contender, but there's something about the lantern scene I just prefer.

Other scenes that would seemingly qualify, but I feel just don't quite fit the bill, for one reason or another:

- A Whole New World (too fast-paced and flirty)
- Kiss the Girl (Eric was too one-dimensional and their relationship was too underdeveloped for me to feel all that invested)
- Pocahontas speaking to John Smith for the first time after "listening to her heart" and being able to understand his language (amazing scene, but it's too bittersweet and sort of foreshadowing how their different cultures would end up keeping them apart to qualify for that optimistic, "dreams come true" Disney magic)
- Ray and Evangeline being united in the sky (very touching, but too short and sweet to have the same impact)

The lantern scene is something to behold. I only wish I had seen it in theaters.

I'm also a sucker for the Kingdom Dance scene. Rapunzel I think really shines in that scene. And it really builds us up for that lantern scene & "I See the Light".

My thoughts exactly. This must have been amazing in IMAX.

Beautiful scene, basically the only scene where the 3D glasses were of any use.

There is no better scene. It is just breathtaking (and the vilage dance is a great build up)

it was very beautiful and reminded me a lot of the kiss the girl scene from the little mermaid when the glow worms surround ariel and eric in the boat.

If you start sitting around the campfire, telling scary stories -- change our names!

I remember watching the lantern scene in theatres and being blown away by how beautiful it was. Absolutely magnificent.

I adore this scene too, and my toddler LOVES the song. I actually managed to track down a poster that is a still shot of this scene, and I'm having it framed for her bedroom. :)

That scene is simply stunning and I'm gutted I missed it on Imax when it first got released. I agree with your other choices, especially the beauty and the beast ballroom scene

This film is the reason why I went back to see Disney movies in theater, and like most, I really wish that I saw it on a big screen, and possibly in 3D for this scene.
The song is pretty nice, I even used the German version in one of my class.

My favorite one is still the Beauty and the Beast dance, short and sweet, magnificent and simple, but that's not fair to compare it because I saw it as a child and the nostalgia factor plays a big part.

Prince fitting Cinderella's shoe

??
The prince himself didn't put the shoe on Cinderella, it was the Grand Duke who did it. Even the king at the end did it (when she runs after getting married), but not the prince.

Kiss the Girl (Eric was too one-dimensional and their relationship was too underdeveloped for me to feel all that invested)

To be fair, this scene is only half romantic, and more suspensful. If Ariel doesn't kiss the prince, she will belong to the witch so there is more than love at play here.

I prefer the first scene on the beach, after she has saved him from the tempest, as it resonates even better at the end when she finally become human.

- Hercule and Megara is quite nice too. Love her song "I won't say I'm in love" (in French, much more powerful and the lyrics just flow better), her sacrifice and his own sacrifice.
So it makes it very powerful when he finally kiss her at the end and he gives up on being a god for her.

- Surprisingly, "A Goofy Movie" has a nice teenage romance between Max and Roxanne, and I really like the song "Stand Out" between those two, though he sings in front of the either school, he actually talks only to her.
