i watched this as a teenager and loved it. i'm watching it again now and holy shit it sucks. dan humphrey's constant sarcasm is so fucking annoying that it's almost unwatchable. all these rich people are so nice to him and he just makes the most bitter comments about their wealth. serena's interest in him doesnt even make sense because he doesn't even have any good qualities.

on a side note, writers of teen stories are geniuses. somehow they're old but know what teens like. this show moves super fast and character actions barely make sense. it flips back and forth over and over at the flick of a switch. this looks so stupid as an adult but as a kid, i loved it.

I think what they are good at is emotional manipulation, a lot of shows are simply that.

I find majority of shows are just a number of scenes they think will provoke audience in certain ways stitched together with very thin logic.

Then again once you can see through the emotional manipulation, you will find a lot of shows are quite mediocre, even stupid and weird.
