I damn near fell asleep
This is the most boring thing in the history of all things.
shareAdult Swim and Cartoon Network are separate stations:
Adult Swim, usually stylized [adult swim], is the name for an adult-oriented television programming network that shares channel space with Cartoon Network in the United States.
the only thing any of you are right about is what you like...not others...you like it you like it! you dont you dont. i love this show! so funny
shareMy personal opinion is that it is a subtle stroke of genius. It is not a joke led comedy in the traditional sense. The fact that the actual actors are playing actors who played characters in this fictional series from the 80's is pretty cool, especially if you listen to the commentary track, where they are still playing the part of the self important actors.
The comedy comes from (for example) showing a scene of god awful monkey suits, and then cutting to Todd saying 'I thought looking back that they would look quite dated and naff .... but they still look great, even now' with such senserity.
Not only is the clips from the series a great spoof of rubbish old, detective/supernatural tv serials, but the pompous opinions on how terrifying theyre work was is a great spoof on actors and directors promoting their own work.
I never get bored watching this dvd. Fantastic

It really is great. But I think the humor is lost on a lot of people. The writing has so many hidden gems in it. When people watch TV, they rarely pay attention to the detail. More how people say something, than what they actually say. The bad acting, missing marks, bad editing, bad VO work. They broke every basic rule taught in film school. I am surprised the show hasn't done better than it has. A second season is definitely needed.

It seems to be lost on you. It's not random, there's a coehsive storyline, just done incredibly unique. Where the actors play actors talking about their characters inbetween scenes.
The discussion on the scenes is incredibly dry and serious, while the actual scenes are horribly acted on purpose and full of ridiculous one liners which creates a hilarious dynamic.
I fookin love this show.

I still miss The West Wing
It was very clever. It just didn't make me laugh.

I realise that I'm in the minority here, but I found this series to be a missed opportunity. I'd heard it compared to the IT Crowd (quite funny) and Nathan Barley (near-genius), so my expectations were probably a little high. But if there's one thing that kills humour for me, it's the "hey, look at me. aren't I being funny and ironic?" pose that all of the actors adopt in GMD. Police Squad worked precisely because it was played so straight.
When the situation and the writing are as preposterous as they are in GMD, I found the non-stop lampshade-hanging only got in the way of the humour, by making the jokes so obvious that there was nothing left to 'get'.
IMHO, a few more 'straight men', and a few less comedians trying to turn in comically straight performances, and GMD could have been golden.
But, as I said, I am obviously in the minority, so feel free to insult my intelligence/parentage/etc.

I only drink to make other people interesting.
I had the same problems with staying awake & I agree that the show is clever, but not funny.
It doesn't deserve an IMDB rating of 9.0. It should get a 6.0, at best.
