One of the funniest shows ever... but thank god it got cancelled

It's the old Police Squad thing. They would never have been able to keep the joke up for long.

Darkplace never reached the heights of Police Squad for me. Just not as consistently funny and clever.

Parts of Darkplace and the characters are brilliant. The show worked best for me as a parody of bad television, but the stories (especially after the first episode) are just a bit too silly to hold it together.

Wait- did you just call the stories "too silly"?!?
Haha...that seems a bit misguided, like calling Rambo too violent.

Anyway, I could have done with a 2nd season.

Yes, silly. As in it was trying too hard to be clever in some parts and ended up crossing the line and being too silly, and not funny.

And Rambo crossed the line in action a few times almost into parody. Particularly in Rambo III.

While I can see your point, one of the saddest things about Police Squad is it never getting a second series. The script for the unproduced seventh episode is available online and it's funny as hell- had me laughing out loud- and that's even before the cast and crew made their ad-libs.

Personally, I would love more Dark Place, even just a one off, feature length episode.

Police Squad at least spun off into The Naked Gun and had 3 rather successful movies as a result. I read that there's a proposed Darkplace movie, but that was rumored about 5 years ago and there's hasn't been another word about it since.

Because sponges never have bad days.
