Season 6

Thanks to WGN here in the states I was able to see Corner Gas seasons 1-5 a while ago. I'm rewatching the whole series now and I'm on the 4th episode of season 6. Does anyone else agree that the quality of the show dropped considerably this season? It feels like the actors just checked out. And Hank seems like he's gotten smarter. I dunno... just something about it that's been rubbing me the wrong way. Anybody else get that feeling from this season?

I completely disagree. I think the show stayed more or less the same. There are some great standout moments and episodes in season 6 in my opinion. I've seen a couple mentions though of it not being as good and I don't get it.

I don't think there was really anything going on on the part of the actors, but in the last few seasons it sometimes felt like the writers put in some pretty lame jokes every once in a while, like they didn't have any ideas left. Not that there weren't some great episodes in the later seasons, but if the show continued I don't think they would've been able to keep it up for another few seasons until the quality noticably dropped.

There was a slight drop in quality in the last season IMO, but it was still one of my favourite sitcoms. It was Brent Butt's call to end it when he did, and he wanted it to go out on top. A pretty classy move on his part, as far as I'm concerned. Too many great shows hang on way past their prime and become pathetic shadows of their former selves.

Episode 4 does feel really weird, but 5 was back on par, and then when we get to Good Tubbin', episode 6, which I think is one of the best episodes ever: every one of its three sub-plots is bang-on funny. But yeah, the season is uneven.

I felt it was one the most consistent shows quality-wise. most shows tend to have a bit of a slump, especially longer running shows, but Corner Gas seemed to be pretty much the same level from pilot to finale
