Officer Karen wearing ill-fitting shirt and jacket in a few episodes

I'm just re-watching the series for the third time and noticed that Karen's uniform jacket sleeves are about five inches too long and she looks like some kid in her dad's outfit. The odd thing is that it only happens in a few episodes so clearly they had proper wardrobe for her most of the times. I mean I never got the sense it was that much of a low budget production that a seamstress couldn't have fixed that.

Her hands are swallowed up inside the sleeves at times and she's nearly swimming about inside a jacket that looks to be one of Davis' spares. I thought it was going to be part of a scripted gag but nothing was ever said.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I've noticed this too. I don't think it had anything to do with the production process or the show's budget. I put it off to the quirkiness of being a cop in a small town....ie the police dept couldn't afford to find her a uniform that fits her properly. Sort of like Davis buying "bullet resistant vests" instead of bullet-proof vests so he could use the extra money to buy a Taser.

She does wear properly fitted wardrobe uniform items in both earlier and later episodes though. There may have been an issue over a short range of the shooting schedule where her own kit wasn't available and they crammed her into spare stuff meant for Officer Davis. Episodes filmed in a fixed time period aren't always shown in the same order so it could explain this.

If it was meant as a Dog River joke, then it was never mentioned or exploited for laughs in-show as far as I know. If it was meant as a stealth running gag (like Les Nessman's bandages on WKRP) then it also failed, as they didn't keep it consistent.

They could've said that, as she paid Davis to launder her shirts, he sometimes mixed up their shirts but their jackets would surely be dry cleaned.

Hopefully the movie has her in proper-sized uniforms throughout.

I'm just jumping in with a quick reply here so I can't quote to you the episode(s), but I do know Karen does make mention of the ill-fitting shirts she has to wear. If I can remember the episode, I'll jump back on to let you know :)
