Roughriders' loonie....

To our American friends, loonie = $1.00 coin. Aptly named because there is a loon on the front of the coin, eh?

I saw on the news a while back that the Canadian Mint was going to produce a limited edition Saskatchewan Roughriders loonie, celebrating their 100th anniversary.

From what I see, the characters from "Corner Gas" are big Roughriders' fans.
I am from Ontario, so one would think I'm a Toronto Argonauts or Hamilton Tiger Cats fan.
Nope.
Because of the show, I am a transplanted Roughriders fan. That, plus Andy Fantuz plays on the team. He played at University of Western Ontario in London.

Since I am from Ontario, I thought there would be NO WAY I would get my hands on the loonie.
I was at bowling last Monday night, and found a couple of loonies on the table. It signified to me that someone had got a couple of tickets for our draws.
One of them was the Roughriders loonie.

Without forethought, I grabbed a loonie out of my pocket to replace the Roughriders loonie.

So, I GOT ONE!!!!!

Having grown up in Vancouver, I'm a lifelong BC Lions fan, but getting my hands on one of those Roughriders loonies would be sweet. If the Lions get knocked out of the playoffs, like they were this last season (by the Roughies no less, in one the best playoff games I've ever seen), I automatically become a Riders fan.

The other day I was going through my change, and to my surprise I actually had a Roughriders loonie in my change. So I put it away with all of my other "collector" coins. (Quarters from various U.S. States - I have quarters from about 41 different States, a Montreal Canadiens' loonie, special edition toonies etc.)

I finally got one! One of our cashiers was off sick the other day. I covered her till for the day, and there it was in the tray. If she had been on cash that day she probably would have given out in change. I was a little PO'd that I had to put aside my own work for the day, but that kind of made up for it.

I'm in Toronto and I found the Roughrider's loonie as well. I also found the St John's loonie, Habs loonie and Quebec twoonie (with the fleur de lys symbol instead of the polar bears) in my change before.
