I never wonder what is that thing, it always seemed to me like a piece of a misshapen generator. Sometimes I kill it and sometimes I just leave it there, the sounds of it's movement make the place even more terrifying.

I agree, a regenerator or some piece of it. I left it alone once to see if it would do anything (After killing the main one, of course) and when nothing ever happened, I just toasted it. Most of the time I try to remember not to open the little container it's in, because it's a waste of a bullet.
