Only view the first two

I've recently seen the first two of the trilogy and was wondering if anyone knows if NWR had ever considered making them all one movie. For me, they are decent, but each of the first two is missing something integral and for me, it's caring about why these guys are where they are. If I was more distracted, maybe by the two stories playing simultaneously, I'd have more appreciation.

I'm not bashing NWR, because he's an obvious talent, but I think his own personal hangups with women, especially mothers, seems to create great voids in his stories. He never truly gives them their due and we're left filling in nearly everything for ourselves. I mean, has the man made a single movie without a prostitute in it?

No, the sequels were made long after the first, and it's been said he only made them for the money after his studio went bankrupt.

That said, I didn't fully appreciate these films until I watched all three. I think they complement each other well.

especially mothers

Yeah, I've noticed that's a recurring theme in his movies

I actually liked the third one. I liked Milo's character.
